What you will do
As our first Product Engineer, you will:
- Design and build core product surfaces that bring the “surface area” of scientific thought into one unified interface. You will connect to the key parts of a researcher’s workflow including their computational environment, paper discovery APIs, and external databanks.
- Collaborate closely with the founding AI engineer to build the infrastructure required to support long-running scientific agents that reason, plan, and adapt over time.
- Build the interaction systems that capture and store a researcher’s scientific context environment over time. You will help create a computational representation of how an individual thinks through a problem and how their reasoning evolves.
- Work directly with users to understand their workflows, identify opportunities, and iterate quickly. You will own the UX and develop intuitive interaction patterns that help researchers ask the next question faster.
- Contribute across the stack to prototype, refine, and ship features. You will help establish strong engineering fundamentals for the team.
Who you are
- You love science and scientists. Maybe you have scientists in your family, have a technical degree and did research in college, or maybe you just feel a sense of wonder when you look up at the Milky Way on a dark, moonless night.
- You are a tinkerer who stays close to the frontier of tools. You enjoy experimenting with new technologies, whether they involve AI, developer tooling, or entirely new interaction patterns.
- You are fundamentally full-stack and you think creatively about how to design new interfaces. You are motivated to shape technical stacks from the ground up. You enjoy owning features end-to-end and shaping both the technical architecture and the user experience.
- You may have previous or ongoing research experience, but more importantly, you can communicate with researchers, understand their needs, and translate those needs into product decisions that matter.
Even if all of these do not apply, please reach out if our mission and attitude resonate. Humans are not checklists.
